Visit to Dalt Vila and the Esparto Workshop

This experience will take you back in time. The Carthaginians, the ancient inhabitants of the island, christened the city of Ibiza as Ybosim (island of the god Bes). Here they established their first base from where they dominated the port, one of the main ports in the Mediterranean. Part of their legacy is their peculiar weaponry, which today has become a traditional game. Would you like to know more about it?

Esparto grass is a plant widely used in Ibizan handicrafts, which is used to make baskets, "espardeñas" (shoes with esparto grass soles) and a wide variety of other objects.

In this workshop we will be introduced to the world of esparto grass, we will learn from the use given to it by the ancient inhabitants of the island, such as the "Carthaginian sling shot", to the different traditional uses given to it today.

Each participant will make a small esparto grass object to take home as a souvenir. At the end of the workshop, we will go on a guided tour of Dalt Vila, led by our local guide.
